The name “blue hole” was given to sinkhole-like formations which depth gives them a darker shade of blue than the surrounding sea. This one has a sloped floor with depths between 50m and 90m. Being frequented by freedivers the place is well equipped both in terms of facilities and gear.
Fish and corals can be seen at the blue hole or you can take a swim along the coral reef outside the blue hole which is much richer. There is a fair share of scuba divers under the surface as well as snorkelers on the surface which sometimes may not be even ok swimmers or comfortable in the ocean.
There is an entrance fee to the site as it is part of a protected area. Usually the instructors you’ll go there with will take care of the formalities and let you know the costs.
Reaching the blue hole is done by taxi and it takes about 25 minutes to get there from Dahab
